Matt began flameworking in 1998, trading a $50 debt with a lampworker to learn over his shoulder. A year later he studied at Penland with Emilio Santini for two months, then with Cesare Toffolo in 2002. He exhibits his work with The American Craft Council, having received a merit award from the council in 2004. Thomas Riley Galleries show his work and represent him at the exhibitions of SOFA Chicago, SOFA New York, and Wheaton Villages' Glass Weekend. Images of his work have been published in Craft magazine, The Flow, and New Glass Review, Published by The Corning Museum of Glass. In 2005 he demonstrated at The Glass Art Society conference in Adelaide, Australia, The International Flameworking Conference, and The Art Glass Invitational. In 2006 He'll be teaching classes at the Pittsburgh Glass Center for summer and fall sessions, along with 1 & 2 week sessions at Corning, Penland, Urban glass, The Eugene Glass School, Tecnolux, Glasscraft, Revere Academy of Glass Arts and The Glass Furnace in Istanbul, Turkey.
